Erasmus Quintet : Jeff Cedrone
and Bob Gorry - Guitars, Adam Matlock - accordion and
clarinet, Paul
McGuire - saxophones, and Steve Zieminski - electronic mallet
percussion, drums
and assorted parlor tricks. The NHIC Verge Fest features the
Erasmus
Quintet, now just barely two years old and celebrating the
release of their debut CD, Serious
Folly. This is Avant Electro
Chamber Gypsy Jazz in which EQ focuses
on eternal rhythms, interlocking, searching for the everlasting one.
Electrovibes provide
the backbone to the group with complementary and sometimes jagged
guitars mixing it up with saxophones and accordion. A unique blend of
instrumentation, conceptual
underpinnings, and intuitive rhythms along with a healthy dose of
fun.
Open Spaces : Nate Trier
piano - keyboards, Steve Chillemi - percussion, Nate Bixby - violin,
Andrew Keeler - guitar. Open Spaces
creates
soundscapes
for
in utero afterparties. Its four members draw on
a range of approaches, including classical music, avant garde
improvisation, and post-rock noise, to communicate with telepathic
intensity. Sometimes they even sing.
Triolocus :
Steve Asetta - saxophones, Jamie Paul Lamb - bass, Ralph
Yohuru Williams -
percussion. Jazz Power
Trio Triolocus
is a new formation of musicians that have worked together in various
formations, now cutting down to the bare
essentials. Plus
special guests.
NHIC Large Band : NLB is made up of all members of the above groups, plus a few additional surprises. NLB will be presenting the premiere of "The Cycles that Surround Us," a large group composition by Nate Trier. ---- LYRIC HALL is a beautiful,
completely restored (circa 1912 ) vaudeville theater located in the
heart of the Westville neighborhood of New Haven
